Albuquerque Trucking Accident Causing a Hip Replacement: Albuquerque Trucking Accident Lawyer Explains This Serious Injury

All 18 wheeler collisions, even at low-speed, can generate significant force which can break bone and tear muscle. One of the most serious types of injuries is damage to the hip and pelvis. In an Albuquerque trucking accident, this type of damage can be so severe that a hip replacement surgery is necessary. This is a very complex, invasive, and irreversible surgery. The worst part is that it will only last between 10 and 20 years, meaning patients may need to require additional hip replacements decades after the big rig crash. This is why individuals who were injured in a box truck crash and need a hip replacement should call the experienced Albuquerque trucking accident lawyer at the NM Truck Accident Attorneys

At our law firm, we help you and your family obtain the compensation necessary to pay for medical bills, future surgeries, lost wages, lost earnings if you cannot return to employment with the same compensation, property damage, and compensation for pain and suffering. If you have sustained a serious hip and pelvis fracture or injury in an Albuquerque trucking accident, call the NM Truck Accident Attorneys for a FREE consultation by dialing (505) 308-1556.

What is a Hip Replacement?

A hip replacement is an involved surgical procedure wherein a surgeon removes a part of the hip joint and replaces it with an artificial joint usually made with metal, rubber, plastic, and similar components. This is usually a last resort type of procedure, but when the hip and pelvis have been smashed, fractured, or otherwise irreparably harmed, a hip replacement is necessary to get an individual walking again.

More specifically, a surgeon will make an incision along the side of your hip. The top portion of your femur is carefully removed with a saw. The artificial joint that mimics that bone is placed into the open end of the femur. That piece has a male piece that is a spike or rod which inserts into the hollow part of your bone. It is cemented into place. Next, the hipbone has the cartilage and other supporting tissue removed. The new socket, which is a ball socket, is fixed into place on your hip. This is the female piece, which the artificial joint at the end of your femur connects into.

Hip Replacements Caused by an Albuquerque Trucking Accident

Due to the great force of an Albuquerque trucking accident, your femur or hip may be shattered or destroyed beyond repair. While your femur is the strongest bone in your body, it simply cannot withstand impacts from large box trucks. Particularly in high-speed impacts such as those on I-40, I-25, and I-10 in New Mexico. This is particularly true in the following types of semi tractor trailer wrecks which cause serious injuries:

  • Head on collisions;
  • T-bone collisions;
  • Rear-end crashes;
  • Side-swipe crashes;
  • Jackknife truck crashes;
  • Truck rollovers;
  • Left-turn wrecks; and
  • Many other types.
