Mark Caruso is the founder of Caruso Law Offices. While working as a young attorney in Southern California, Mark had the opportunity to visit New Mexico. He immediately fell in love with the Land of Enchantment. In 1985 Mark Caruso moved from California to New Mexico and met his wife Judy Velarde, a former Albuquerque High Homecoming Queen, and was married. He took the New Mexico bar and became licensed in New Mexico. Together Mark and Judy opened Caruso Law Offices in 1987. Mark and Judy have three daughters all of whom work with them at Caruso Law Offices. Jordana Troise and Giovanna Caruso are associate attorneys, and Shaina Caruso is the assistant office manager. His son-in-law Nick Troise is a paralegal at the firm.
Mark served in the New Mexico Legislature from 1991 to 1995 and has been named by Republican and Democrat Governors to various New Mexico Boards and Commissions. He has received numerous awards and commendations for his work in vehicle accidents and personal injury in Albuquerque. He is a member of state and national trial lawyer associations and the ATAA (Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys). He has been named one of the top 3 personal injury attorneys in Albuquerque and one of the top 10 attorneys in New Mexico for both car accident litigation and truck accident litigation. He was recently named a finalist in the National Trial Lawyers Association’s top truck accident lawyer in the country.
While the Caruso law firm continues to exclusively represent victims from motor vehicle accidents, Mark has narrowed his focus to representing victims of tractor-trailer and semi-truck collisions in Albuquerque and throughout New Mexico. He has settled several multi-million dollar lawsuits for victims of commercial vehicle accidents. Over the past few years he has had two jury trials in U. S. District Court in New Mexico with jury verdicts of $5.5 million and $7.8 million. He also recently settled two cases in U.S. District Court and NM District Court for $12 million each.
Mark is often consulted by other attorneys on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) and the New Mexico Motor Carrier Act (NMCA) and the application of these federal and state trucking regulations to New Mexico commercial motor vehicle crashes. He is considered one of the foremost New Mexico attorneys handling commercial vehicle accidents. In-state and out-of-state attorneys routinely refer their commercial vehicle crash cases to Mark Caruso. He regularly accepts position as co-counsel for out of state attorneys seeking local New Mexico co-counsel experienced in commercial vehicle law in New Mexico.
Mark has appeared on KOB-TV, KRQE-TV, KOAT-TV, the Albuquerque Journal, and national media discussing his representation of clients injured in commercial vehicle accidents in New Mexico.
